It's Friday..and in our family that means Steak Night! In the past, we use Friday night as an excuse to eat out at one of our favorite Chinese restaurant . But since the Chinese place closed, we have converted the eating out habit into our own steak night version
It started when I bumped into the market specials at a local Kroger store on a Friday (after I get my $1 video at movie cube) and came across a great steak cut for less than $20 dollars.
From then on, the habit of checking the special aisle at the grocery on a Friday afternoon was born. It doesn't matter if its a fillet or a simple sirloin. In the grand scheme of things, a steak dinner for $20 dollars to feed a family of five is such a great deal.
Tonight, I had extra time to prepare the steak dinner as I worked from home and attended meeting after meetings in conference calls. So in between breaks, I managed to prepare great side dishes and dessert to go with the meal.
I am not a kitchen superhero but I simply followed the boxed Au Gratin instructions and baked a French Vanilla cake (I'll teach you later)and place them in the oven while brainstorming on a strategy with my team.
Meeting over, Cake and Au Gratin done, Curry rice starting to boil, french baguette arranged in the oven, asiago cheese handy.....(No, this is not a Thanksgiving dinner!)....Its already 6:30pm....Let's start the steak:
2 lbs beef (I used sirloin for tonight)
worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp butter
steak seasoning
granulated garlic
olive oil
salt
pepper
Estimate Cost: Less than $20 including side dishes
STEP 1:
Season beef with salt, pepper, steak seasoning, granulated garlic , worcestershire sauce. Let stand for minimum of 30 minutes
STEP 2:
Heat pan with butter and olive oil
Cook beef until one side is medium brown
STEP 3:
Cook other side of beef until medium brown
STEP 4:
Cut into pieces and arrange in baking pan (optional )
Drizzle with olive oil and granulated garlic. Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degree (well done)
STEP 5:
Serve with favorite side dish
I love Steak Night!
