Our girls learned the art of using chopsticks at the age of 5! Thanks to the numerous Japanese restaurants in Manila, the acquired taste for sushi has been instilled in their palette at an early age. Occasionally, one girl will come up and tell us how she is craving for sushi for a snack! Hmmmm....how many teens do we know that has cravings for sushi??? as a snack???? This is the sole reason, why I stack up on sushi ingredients in my pantry - otherwise, another kitchen nightmare!
Today, we are making a straight forward salmon sushi (no veggies) to go with our stir fry chicken/shrimp. It's so easy to prepare - -even a 5 year old can do this. Here's how:
2 cups cooked japanese rice (follow instructions)
1 pack sushi nori
Smoked Salmon (cut into strips)
Japanese mayonnaise or cream cheese
Japanese soy or Kikomann
Wasabi
basket / sushi roller
NOTE: World Market is the best place to get japanese ingredients if you can't locate any asian store near you
STEP 1:
Place nori on top of basket roller
STEP 2:
Place 2-3 tbsp cooked rice on top of nori
Spread evenly
STEP 3:
Place Japanese mayonnaise or cream cheese evenly on one side
STEP 4:
Place salmon strips across rice
Optional: Add cucumber or carrot strips
STEP 5:
Roll end of nori by pushing the basket roller towards the center
STEP 6:
Once completely rolled, add light weight to evenly press the rice and nori together
STEP 7:
Using a sharp knife, cut into halves.
One Nori can make 8 sushi roll
STEP 8:
Place wasabi and soy sauce on the side.
Serve with stir fry veggie with grilled chicken/shrimp
