Drama Tween/Teen Dilemma:
Mom (or Dad) Treats me like a 7 year old..hugs and kisses me on public like a teddy bear! How can I make them stop?
IF I AM THE DRAMA TWEEN/TEEN:
First I will jump with joy that my parents attention is focused on my well being. How many parents do we know that are affectionate? Hmmm..less than my 10 fingers!!
However, if you must insist that you be treated like a 16 year old..you should start acting like a 16 year old! When I say this, talk to your parents about your true feelings! There is no better way to show your maturity but to face your problem like an adult! Which is "diplomatic reasoning"!
Let your parents know how you feel and how you would like to be treated in public! Assure them that you love them so dearly and nothing has changed and you are still the same lovely girl, but times have changed. With this dialogue, seek your parents support that as you enter the adult stage, you need to prove to them that you can handle more chores and responsibilities! Key word: RESPECT FOR SPACE ... but this needs to be earned...so work it out with your parents!
For my drama tweens, we have developed the "Cheek to cheek" greeting and show of affection!- - you know, the french way! We find it sophisticated and at the same time not too mushy (plus, prevents the lipstick stain in your cheeks!) But hey! Just talk to them ..and I am sure they will be thrilled to hear you out!
